Description
Concertina player Alvin J. Styczynski was born in Pulaski, WI, on October 23, 1935, and grew up on the family farm in Town of Maple Grove, about five miles outside of town. After high school he worked for Northern Shoe in Pulaski and over the years operated three farms and worked as a cattle trucker. The Alvin Styczynski Polka Band entertained throughout Wisconsin and nearby states, as well as Europe (Poland, Holland, Switzerland, Czechoslovakia, and Austria). Alvin and his wife Sherry operated Zielinski’s Ballroom in Pulaski for 19 years, and Alvin, along with bandleader Dick Rodgers, cofounded the original Pulaski Polish Sausage Festival (now Pulaski Polka Days). Alvin was also a regular on WBAY-TV (Green Bay), WTCH Radio (Shawano) and WTAQ Radio (Green Bay).
Alvin was an active member of the Wisconsin Orchestra Leaders Association, and a member of the Wisconsin Polka Hall of Fame. After a 70-year career he retired in 2018. Alvin Styczynski passed away at home on March 27, 2023.
