I wrote this song to be a more extended story piece for an Ari Lennox or SZA type R&B singer with a modern Marvin Gaye “Trouble Man” type orchestration & flow. There is a strong R&B back beat over the 1st section to ground the piece, while the melody floats effortlessly across bar lines in front of waterfall like sheets of sound from the Fender Rhodes. The transition into the solo at the end is to swing to a climax & build. It’s a live take, a sober meditation. If you listen carefully, the trumpet solo is done in just 5 breaths. Virtuosic Lo-fi R&B meets epic John Coltrane jazz finale.
