Description
The Animals were an English rock band formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in the early 1960s. Known for their gritty, bluesy sound and deep-voiced frontman Eric Burdon, they were a leading group of the British Invasion that took the United States by storm. The band's music blended rock and roll, rhythm and blues, and traditional folk influences, often delivering dark, moody interpretations of American blues classics.
Their most iconic hit, "The House of the Rising Sun", released in 1964, became a worldwide success and is considered one of the first rock songs to feature a fully electronic organ sound, played by Alan Price. The original lineup included Eric Burdon (vocals), Alan Price (keyboard), Hilton Valentine (guitar), Chas Chandler (bass), and John Steel (drums).

The Animals were known for their raw energy, working-class image, and emotional intensity. Over time, their music evolved toward psychedelic and hard rock, particularly in their later iteration as Eric Burdon & The Animals. Despite various lineup changes, The Animals left a lasting legacy on rock music with their passionate performances and distinctive sound.
