Born Robert Ronald Smith, he recorded as Ronnie Smith on Hamilton and Brunswick Records. Spelling was changed to Ronny Smith at Imperial Records.
Born Dec. 12, 1940 in Andrews, Texas.
Sadly, Ronnie Smith hung himself October 25, 1962 in a Texas Rehabilitation Hospital while being treated for drug abuse.
In 1957 he was a Disk Jockey at KECK in Odessa, Texas.
First band was The Poor Boys.
Ronnie Smith was recruited to replace Buddy Holly along with Carl Bunch, Waylon Jennings and Tommy Allsup to finish The Winter Dance Party Tour as part of The Crickets. So Ronnie Smith became the unofficial Second Lead Singer of the Crickets.
After The Winter Dance Party Tour, Ronnie and Carl Bunch formed The Jitters.
Was Best known for "Lookie, Lookie, Lookie" and "A Tiny Kiss" produced by Norman Petty, as were all his releases.
